Installation

Q. Can Smart Lobby be installed onto a network? 
A. Yes, but for single-use only. SmartLobby is not a multi-user software product. However, it can be installed onto a network drive as well as a local hard disk. Beware, if installed on a network and the network is down, SmartLobby will not be accessible from the lobby workstation.

Networking

Q. Can Smart Lobby be used to track visitors in and out of multiple lobbies?
A. SmartLobby can, but each lobby must operate independently. Soon, a network version of SmartLobby will be released which will support multiple lobbies and offer the data sharing and record locking necessary for multiple lobby use.

Q. Can Smart Lobby be installed onto a network? 
A. Yes, but for single-use only. SmartLobby is not a multi-user software product. However, it can be installed onto a network drive as well as a local hard disk. Beware, if installed on a network and the network is down, Smart Lobby will not be accessible from the lobby workstation.

Q. On a network, Can I review the data and run reports from one workstation and run the lobby from another workstation?
A. Yes, with limitations. You can install lobby onto a network drive to accomplish this, but two people should not open the data file at the same time. So, in this case, any reports or maintenance done should be done when the lobby is closed and the SmartLobby is shutdown in the lobby.

Usage

Q. When installing SmartLobby, the installation program cannot locate a Smart Label Printer even though it is attached to the computer. What should I do?
A. Continue on with the installation, skipping the SLP driver installation. Then install the SLP driver manually (for example, in Windows 95, select the Add Printer option from the printers list). The version 2.5 driver has been included on disk 1 the SmartLobby installation diskettes. Once installed, configure the printer driver as needed by selecting the correct label size and orientation.

Q. I have installed and configured the SLP driver, but nothing prints out. What can I do?
A. First, test the driver to ensure the driver is configured properly. Open up the SLP driver dialog, review all of the settings (in particular the label size and the orientation) and press the Print Test button.

If a test label prints out, then the driver is functioning properly and you should check the settings in SmartLobby to ensure that SmartLobby is setup properly. If a label does not print out, then the SLP driver is not configured properly and will need to be corrected.

Troubleshooting the SLP Printer Driver:

  1. Disable the 16550 COM FIFO buffering of the serial port that the SLP is connected to. 
  2. Correctly set the handshaking of the port (try the "Hardware" or "None" settings). 

Q. Although I am using a wide label in the SLP and on the screen, when I print the badge on the SLP, it only prints in the middle of the wide label. What should I do?
A. The label size is not correctly set in the printer driver (it is likely set to "address" size). go into the SLP driver settings and select the correct label size.
